We walked extra a long distance yesterday, so that, after walking in the morning, we could spend half a day in San Miniato. It’s our first Tuscan hill-top town. We arrived by noon and were able to visit the cathedral and other churches, including San Francesco, founded or established (depending on which guide you read) by St. Francis, himself, As you probably recall St Junipero Serra was a Franciscan.
For the first time in either of our lives we tried truffles, mine on risotto. its a very pleasant taste, which we both enjoyed while wondering if it was worth the cost.
Next to the cathedral was an art museum of spectacular paintings that had been assembled from churches in the diocese that couldn’t restore or maintain them —most were quite beautiful and a few were positively ancient l. It’s a hallmark of our Catholic faith that we have tried, throughout the ages up to the present day, to make our churches beautiful, and to adorn them with lovely art, to lift up our spirits, enabling us in a sacred place, to be particularly aware of God, who is with us in every place.
1 Kings 6:11–13: The word of the Lord came to Solomon: As to this house you are building—if you walk in my statutes, carry out my ordinances, and observe all my commands, walking in them, I will fulfill toward you my word which I spoke to David your father. I will dwell in the midst of the Israelites and will not forsake my people Israel.
Just today Fr. Jim and I made it through the entire list of your prayers, and ours. We will start again tomorrow.

Your journey sounds wonderful! Thank you and Fr. Jim for your prayers. Praying for you both as well.
The Franciscans remember that the laborer is worth his wage – even if it comes in the form of truffles. You have been inviting us to share your way as you walk. You have carried and offered our prayers as you trek. Is there any special prayer(s) either of you would like us to offer for you? A special intention that our Lord will recognize as we bring it to His Mind? I hope He already knows you as we pray for you… bb
Fr. Patrick, the hill-top town that we visited on our trip was San Gimignano near Siena. Maybe you will see it as well on your journey. We found out later that our financial advisor and his wife and gone there for their honeymoon several years ago. It was, like San Miniato, a very quaint, beautiful town. They also offered truffles there.
Enjoy your journey! We are through your posts and pictures.
We miss you at Mass already!
Blessings,
Bill
Great photos, Fr. Patrick! I love Italy’s scenery. The small and ancient hill-top towns are so beautiful. Several years ago we took a small bus tour from Venice to Rome and then down to Sorrento and Capri. Also visited Capri . Only 14 in the first group and about 7 in the last group. Same tour guide. We loved the changes in the scenery and the food served in each area of Italy.
So happy to hear that you and Fr. Jim have been able to work through all of the parishioners’ prayer intentions each day or so. This means a lot.
Looks like you are enjoying beautiful weather on your pilgrimage! I pray that this will continue.
Blessings to you both,
Bill
What a wonderful place for your first taste of truffles. I like the earthy flavor.
I found my rock today. I’m in countdown mode!!
Thank you for your prayers.
