Lucca — Oct 2

Fr. Jim arrived safely last night and we just had the loveliest (and necessary) catch-up-to-this-time- zone day for him and rest day for me.

We’ve wandered through the ancient streets of Lucca, founded and walled by the Romans, visiting one beautiful church and site after another. We prayed for you everywhere. Fr. Jim commented twice that your prayers were beautiful.

Highlights for us were:
1. The spectacular cathedral
2. A delicious pranza (Ric Steves was right about how to order food for 2 in Italy)
3. And odd ball as it might seem, a Puccini opera performance here in his home city

I will simply say that beauty feeds the soul, and good food does too.

Sirach 42:22–25: How beautiful are all [the Most High’s] works, delightful to gaze upon and a joy to behold! Everything lives and abides forever; and to meet each need all things are preserved. All of them differ, one from another, yet none of them has he made in vain; for each in turn, as it comes, is good;
can one ever see enough of their splendor?

Can I encourage you enough to take a little time for beauty (and good food)?

I promise more pictures when I have better WiFi.

Love from your priest,
Fr. Patrick

    Thank you for taking the time to share your walk with us, Fr. Patrick. We feel like we are walking the route along with you. We will likely never walk the Francigena and we are happy to be walking it this way with you. You and Fr. Jim are in our prayers.

    My prayer is to feel joy, peace and , loving communications in all relationships. Forgiveness as God has bestowed on us. Love your neighbor and God with all your might! Be humble. Watch my profanities and rudeness, Shortness and interrupting others is rude. Be on time punctual. Lateness is a sin.

    Safety in your pilgrimage.

    I hope Puccini was food for your soul as well. Rev Kevin gave us a lovely into to the synod beginning on Oct 4. Please join your prayers for our church. This old lady still manages to teach many of us to be followers of Jesus. We need her to keep climbing the Holy Mountain. Perhaps you will be able to peak in on the gathering.
    Tuna pizza might be better than you would expect.
