Fucecchio — October 4 — St Francis

What a great day!

If yesterday was mostly suburbs, today was largely a walk in a forest, with a couple miles at the end on a river wall.

Daniel 3:74–7: Let the earth bless the Lord,
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Mountains and hills, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Everything growing on earth, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.

We passed over a bridge built by Cosimo di Medici, and trod on Medieval cobblestones laid down for ancient pilgrims making their way to Rome. We decided we didn’t need to walk on cobbles again except to do penance for Fr. Jim’s many sins (kidding!).

As we walked our 12 miles we talked about what makes effective ministry, cultural anthropology, depth psychology and beer. We lifted up your beautiful prayers at two churches and three chapels.

And then we ate! Oh how we ate—not penitentially, but in a very joyous Italian way.

What a great day.!

    Fr. Patrick and Fr. Jim, it sounds like you are enjoying your days on this pilgrimage. The variations in your surroundings are good, think.
    Being able to walk on millennia old paths and cobblestone streets is an amazing experience. Very hard to grasp, even as you are doing it.
    Great pictures! How about a few of the two of you on the path?
