After a second very long day (it was supposed to be 16 miles, but I got lost twice, and 16 became 18…sigh) I arrived in the quaint little town of Camaiore.
Two scripture passages caught hold of my religious imagination on the way. Just as I was beginning a conversation with Our Lord about being his companion, I walk into a church that has a painting of Jesus walk with two believers to Emaus. They fail to recognize him till the breaking of the bread…good food for thought for me. Where do I fail to recognize Him?
I was able to get to Mass there, at a beautiful church filled with the Italian version of our Leisure Village crowd. The old gang sang so beautifully! But best of all was the first verse of this weekend’s responsorial psalm:
Your ways, oh, LORD make known to me,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth, and teach me,
for you, are GOD, my savior.
You hear things differently when all you have is time. That verse could be any walking pilgrim’s heart’s desire.
Shall we all seek to walk in His ways, even if our feet are sore?
¡Siempre Adelante!
Fr. Patrick
I am enjoying being with you in spirit on your journey. Sending you lots of love dear brother.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Please forgive me again. At least I can pray for you both…bb
So glad you found your way to Camaiore…2 miles on sore feet seems really long!
What gifts you are receiving and sharing. Thank you.
Chris
Thank you for sharing this beautiful journey that you are on so vividly. I almost feel that I am there walking with you. I don’t know about the 36 miles in two days though.
Thank you, Fr. Patrick, for this great narrative of today’s walk for you. I admire you for doing this pilgrimage and for relating each day to us online. I love the churches in Italy. Thank you for all the great images.
Only 28 more days!
Blessings to you,
Bill and Barb
Praying for you to have joy in your heart – and your feet – every step of the way!
Blessings and hugs! Jackie P
